Some decisions are best left for later.
The vet said my mare’s detached retina resulted from a blow to the orbit, perhaps from running into another horse. At age 11, Sirs Venus was in the prime of her life.
The future seemed pretty bleak; she probably wouldn’t be safe to ride, especially if she lost sight in the other eye—a possibility, according to the vet. I wondered how, even as a broodmare, she’d be able to find her food and water and keep track of her foal—which was due in just a few months.
