Why enroll?

Breeders’ Trust payouts provide a direct cash return to owners for points their foals earn, adding value to their halter and performance points and defraying the costs of showing.
Nomination/enrollment fees are also tax deductible. Plus, a list of nominated stallions appears in each issue of Appaloosa Journal from November through April, and on the Appaloosa Horse Club’s web site, providing participants with free advertising. These benefits increase the value of stallions and foals, and boost the overall value and prestige of the Appaloosa breed.

How does it work?

A stallion is enrolled in Breeders’  Trust for an annual fee of $200 prior to the breeding season (December 31); $300 during the breeding season (January 1–December 31); and $600 until August 1 of the year after the breeding season.
The get of enrolled stallions are eligible for nomination to the five-year incentive program.

All funds less a 5 percent administrative fee are maintained in a separate, interest-bearing account and distributed back to horse owners in direct proportion to ApHC-sanctioned points earned by the foals according to ApHC records as of January 31 of the year following the year in which the points were earned.

What about foals?

Foal nomination carries a one-time fee of $100 if the foal is produced by an Appaloosa mare, or $150 if produced by a non-Appaloosa mare if the foal is nominated before December 31 of its birth year. Otherwise, fees are $200 for yearlings, $400 for 2-year-olds, $800 for 3-year-olds and $1,000 for 4- and 5-year-olds.

How are dollars paid?

Payouts are distributed to age divisions in five equal parts: yearlings, 2 year olds, 3 year olds, 4 year olds and 5 year olds. Five percent goes to the foal’s nominator, 10 percent to the stallion owner and 85 percent to the owner or lessee of the point-earning foal on record with the ApHC at the time the points were earned.
