Blowing Easy propelled his sire and dam to the leading sire and dam lists as he streaked across the track to become a top money earner in Appaloosa racing.
Kent Ellsworth, DVM, of Yucaipa, California, crossed his Appaloosa mare Tamaracks Mariah to Thoroughbred stallion Take By Storm. The pairing produced Blowing Easy on January 19, 1983.
Take By Storm hadnt found much success on the track, but hed produced several Thoroughbred winners. Tamaracks Mariah, a show horse, never raced and hadnt produced a big winner until Blowing Easy hit the track as a 2-year-old under the guidance of Hall of Fame trainer Don Collins of Alta Loma, California. Kent sold the gelding in 1985 to Mike House of El Cajon, California, who owned Blowing Easy for the majority of his campaign.
The gelding earned a 48-21-7-6 record during his career on the track and became the richest Appaloosa of his time with $260,789 in lifetime earnings. Blowing Easy won the 1986 Valley Racing Derby and 1986 Cal-bred Derby, 1987 and 1989 Silver and Gold Invitational Handicaps, 1987 California Coast to Coast Stakes and 1989 Pleasanton Handicap.
His wins led him to earn 3-year-old gelding and supreme champion 3-year-old titles in 1986 and the 4-years-and-older gelding title in 1987 along with two bronze medallions and one bronze superior achievement certificate.
Don and his wife Dee purchased Blowing Easy in 1991. Later that year, the gelding was euthanized after sustaining a race-related injury. Blowing Easy is currently the second highest Appaloosa money earner of all time.
