Hayes Roman Cloud did it all. He performed and haltered, won races and, ultimately, produced winners even better than himself. The stallion, born on May 2, 1965, was bred by Wayne Hayes of Hays, Kansas, and owned during his racing years by Hall of Fame inductee J.E. Baker of Oklahoma City. The stallion then passed hands from J.E. to Lawrence Ober of Delano, California, then to Lewis and Marilynn Feuerstein of Creston, California. Crown Center Farms in Columbia, Missouri, became Hayes Roman Clouds last home in 1983.
Hayes Roman Cloud earned the 1967 2-year-old sprint colt title after winning the World Wide and Arizona Appaloosa futurities. The same year, he finished second in the Centennial Juvenile Stakes and third in the Oklahoma Futurity. He placed fifth out of 53 in the stallion halter class at the 23rd National Show in 1970.
The stallion sired 270 foals, including fellow Hall of Fame inductee Romans Straw Man (out of ID mare My Straw). Thirty of Hayes Roman Clouds foals followed their sire onto the track, earning a combined $95,051.94, two registers of merit and a championship. Eleven became winners and four earned stakes wins.
In the show pen, 39 foals have earned 1,813 performance points and 52 have collected 1,162.5 halter points. Forty-one have brought home 74 registers of merit. In total, his get won three halter superior event titles, three performance superior event titles, three Club championships, one versatility championship, 24 bronze medallions, 17 bronze superior achievement certificates and six silver medallions.
He won the get-of-sire titles at the 1977 National Show, 1981 National and World shows and the 1984 World Show, collecting a bronze medallion and three bronze certificates of achievement for get of sire.
Hayes Roman Cloud produced his last foal crop in 1984.
