Peavy Bimbo

Peavy Bimbo
Absarokee Sunset pedigree

Peavy Bimbo came from the Quarter Horse and Appaloosa breeding program of Appaloosa Hall of Fame inductee Mavis Peavy in Colorado. Jack Ketcham, DVM, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and F.R. Cassell of Englewood, Colorado, purchased the stallion in 1959 as partners, and throughout Peavy Bimbo’s life, Jack retained part ownership in him.
In 1961 ApHC Hall of Fame inductee Hank Wiescamp of Alamosa, Colorado, purchased half interest in Peavy Bimbo. The colorful dun became Hank’s first Appaloosa stallion and the beginning of his Appaloosa breeding program. Hank used Peavy Bimbo for three years, then half interest moved to Charles Williams of Gallup, New Mexico, in 1964. Finally, Appaloosa judge Ward Fenton of Sheperd, Montana, purchased half interest in the stallion in 1968.

Peavy Bimbo produced 133 foals including halter, performance and racehorses, over a breeding career that spanned 20 years. His get included seven race starters, three winners and two stakes winners who earned a combined $3,676.75 on the track.

Billy Pepper, a 1959 colt (gelded in 1966) out of Peggy (JC), claimed the 4-year-old-and-older colt title in 1964. Bim Bim, a 1961 stallion out of Miss Rey (Unreg.), earned the same title in 1965.

In the show ring, Peavy Bimbo’s foals stood out as both performance and halter horses. The 1964 Wiescamp-bred stallion Peavy’s Fireball, out of Little Cowgirl (AQHA), won the National champion halter stallion title in 1967.

Miss Mavis, a 1961 filly out of Ida Pearl (AQHA), earned the reserve National champion halter title as a 3-year-old. Miss Mavis, along with her sisters, went on to secure Peavy Bimbo’s reputation as a broodmare sire.

Peavy Bimbo died of natural causes associated with old age at Ward and Alice Fenton’s Farm.
