Pefect One

Perfect One
Absarokee Sunset pedigree

Perfect One is the leading producer of Appaloosa money earners on the track. The 24-year-old mare is also a permanent fixture at owners Donna and Jerry Lawley’s Tishomingo, Oklahoma, breeding farm.

The Lawleys purchased Perfect One as a yearling race prospect in 1980. Bred by Edwina Porter of New Port Richey, Florida, and sired by Ichibon (AQHA), Perfect One was the first foal out of money earner and top register of merit producer Perfect Union.

The Lawleys raced their filly for one season as a 2-year-old in 1981. She made five starts with one win and two places, earning $2,705.01 and a speed index of 83.

Perfect One has gone on to produce 15 foals, including 13 starters and 12 winners. Combined, they’ve won $423,921.48, with the average money earner bringing home more than $32,000 in career winnings. Her foals include four stakes winners, seven stakes placers, three champions and three regional champions. Her foals combined have collected 12 registers of merit and six bronze medallions.

The Lawleys have crossed Perfect One with top young Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred stallions, but Jerry says she crosses best with Quarter Horses. Some of her standout foals include Persnickety One (by Real Easy Jet, AQHA), Here’e Come (by Dash For Perks, AQHA), Eyes The One (by Mr Eye Opener, AQHA) and Fast As You (by Six Fortunes, AQHA).

Perfect One lost her 2003 foal, a colored filly by Bully Bullion (AQHA). She’s bred back to the stallion for a 2004 foal. The Lawleys hope to offer her embryos for transplant in coming years and plan to continue breeding her. After she stops producing, “she has a home here for the rest of her life,” Jerry says.
