Wego Melody became one of the first Appaloosa Horse Club Racing Hall of Fame inductees in 1988. The honor recognized her as a maternal powerhouse of Appaloosa racing.
Wego Melody was bred by Ed Vaughn of Miles City, Montana, and born on June 15, 1962. Milton S. Irwin of Oswego, Kansas, registered her with the ApHC in November of the same year. Although officially the mares paternal granddam is listed as Bay Ann (Unreg.), unofficial records point to an ID mare named 23 Bay-Ann (by Morgans Matador F-1431 and out of Frosty-Ann F-1336) as Wego Melodys granddam.
Gene Miles of Garden Plain, Kansas, later purchased Wego Melody and used her as a broodmare for his racing program. Under Genes care, Wego Melody reigned as leading dam, most winners, from 1962 to 1971. Gene entered the ApHC Racing Hall of Fame along with his mare in 1988.
In available race records, Wego Melody produced 15 registered foals including 12 starters, seven winners, one stakes winner and four stakes placers. Combined they earned $33,600.70 on the track.
Wego Melody produced her most winning foal and ApHC Racing Hall of Fame mare We Go Charge (by Diamond Charge, AQHA), who in turn produced ApHC Racing Hall of Fame inductees Scooter Bug G. (by Lady Bugs Moon), Easy We Go (by Easy Jet, AQHA) and We Go Easy (also by Easy Jet). Wego Melody is also the granddam of ApHC Racing Hall of Fame inductee Some Kinda Easy and is on the maternal pedigree of ApHC Hall of Fame inductee Wego For Cash.
Wego Melody produced her last foal, Melodys Request (by Easy Request, AQHA) in 1983.
