Field Notes submission guidelines

Do you know a story that would interest Appaloosa Journal readers? We recognize the importance of reader input and invite you to share your Appaloosa activities by writing to assoc.editor@appaloosajournal.com, or sending material to Appaloosa Journal, Editorial, 2720 W. Pullman Road, Moscow ID 83843; fax to (208) 882-8150, attn: Journal.

Information may be submitted in narrative form, or as brief details with one or more contacts our staff can follow up with. Please include your name, address, daytime and evening phone numbers and e-mail address.

Images may be digital images of at least 300 dots per inch (dpi) resolution at a minimum of 4 x 6 inches (10 x 15 cm) or prints from film negatives—gloss finish is preferred to matte. Computer copies and instant (Polaroid) prints are unacceptable. Please allow three months for return of photos.

Submitted materials will be selected based upon continuity with editorial content and general appeal. Appaloosa Journal reserves the right to edit for style, clarity and to fit space availability. Please understand that we must verify event results with other associations, and that occasionally it is impossible to do so within the deadline that would keep the article timely.

While we appreciate all submissions, we’re unable to notify individuals whose materials aren’t selected for publication. Appaloosa Journal doesn’t return materials unaccompanied by photos.

Greener Pastures submission guidelines

It’s the policy of Appaloosa Journal to accept for consideration the obituaries of horses and people who’ve passed away within two months prior to the editorial deadline date. For example, the editorial deadline for the July issue is May 15; consequently, deaths after March 15 would be considered for publication in July. Greener Pastures is a free service available to all who meet these requirements. Appaloosa Journal reserves the right to edit obituaries for clarity, content and length. Please note that poems and overly sentimental pieces are subject to editor’s discretion.

If you’re interested in running a display ad in honor of your deceased horse, please contact the Advertising Manager at (208) 882-5578 ext. 256 or advertising@appaloosajournal.com for a special bereavement rate. Placing an ad is separate from submitting information for Greener Pastures.
